Dutch government is criticized for slow-rolling online gambling reform

It is more than evident that online gambling industry has been developing extremely fast as a form of entertainment all around the world.

Actually there is another fact which is negative. It is connected with the lack of readiness of some countries to welcome online casinos. As an example we can give the dutch government which confronted gambling.

The posts of chairman and vice-chairman of the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) have been recently occupied by new people. René Jansen has been appointed to take the seat of Jan Suyver as chairman and Bernadette van Buchem became vice-chairman instead Henk Kesler.

Both Suyver and Kesler reported about the lack of changes during the last few years on the Dutch gambling market. The liberalization of the Dutch online gambling market was planned to be implemented in the law six years ago. The sad news is that the legislation has still not been carried out.

The accusation of Suyver rely on religiously inclined legislators in parties like the Christian Union and Christian Democratic Appeal. These legislators have stopped the Remote Gambling Bill passage in the legislature’s lower house of Netherlands.

Even we can admit that online gambling is a really complicated matter and many parties have their own views both pro and con, this is not a reason to reject and not regulate it. Because of personal believes online gambling shouldn’t be blocked.

According to the surveys the Netherlands is almost the only country in the European Union that has not moved to regulate online gambling. The passage of the Remote Gambling bill could be a way to protect Dutch punters when they participate in online gambling.

Legislators still have not delivered what they promised to the KSA and Dutch punters. Definitely online casino consumers deserve to be protected and that politicians must give the KSA the effective tools to do so.

Advantages of online gambling for the state economy

Online gambling could become a new source of income for the country as a whole. But it must be controlled and provide safe and sure form of entertainment. When the Remote Gambling Bill is implemented it could provide Dutch punters with the safety they deserve.

There is still hope this to be done in the near future with the newly appointed chairman and vice-chairman of the KSA.
